Spring Break Culture Camp 2025

MARCH 2025

This year, the Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society (PGUAJS) had the privilege of hosting our second annual Youth Spring Break Culture Camp. In partnership with Communities Against Sexually Exploited Youth (CASEY), a Justice Education Society initiative, the camp provided a supportive and enriching environment for Indigenous girls in grades 7-9.

Our Youth Indigenous Justice Worker designed a low-barrier, weeklong program focused on wellness, cultural teachings, and community connection, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and fun experience for all participants.

The camp featured a diverse lineup of interactive workshops and activities led by Elders, Knowledge Keepers, local artists, and community partners. Highlights included:

  • Art Workshop with Clayton Gauthier, encouraging creative expression and storytelling through visual arts Northern Traditional Powwow Dancing with Grant West, sharing the joy and significance of dance in Indigenous culture.
  • Dreamcatcher Making with Chris Dalziel, teaching traditional craft skills and their cultural meaning Community Policing Sessions, fostering positive relationships and open dialogue between youth and local law enforcement.
  • Outdoor Activities and Fun Outings, providing opportunities for team-building, recreation, and connecting with nature
Beyond skills and cultural teachings, the camp emphasized wellness, confidence, and leadership.

Youth were encouraged to share their stories, learn from Elders, and build lifelong connections with peers and community members.

We are grateful to all partners, facilitators, and volunteers whose contributions made this week unforgettable. The camp continues to strengthen the cultural identity, resilience, and well-being of Indigenous youth in Prince George, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
