Institutional Reintegration Worker

Institutional Reintegration Worker (IRW)

The IRW works with both male and female Indigenous clients within the Provincial Institution (PGRCC) prior to their release back into the community. Working in partnership with the Prince George Parole and Probation offices as referral agencies, and a wide variety of community service providers, (including the ten Northern BC Aboriginal Justice Strategy Programs), the IRW will work with Indigenous offenders from early on in their sentencing until their successful release.

Additionally, the IRW will work with their clients providing service supports as they work towards their eventual release back into community, such as: predetermining options for safe and secure housing; exploring employment, education and training programs, getting support for mental health and/or disabilities (counselling services, diagnosis support, FASD support, etc.); and addictions/treatment support.

The IRW would also work as an advocate and referral agency for our clients wanting to return to their home communities (outside of Prince George), connecting them with local BC Indigenous Justice Workers or other support workers in their home community prior to release.

The IRW provides a continuum of care by working with clients once they have left the institutional and are back in the community.
