A good day can start with something as simple as breakfast, a familiar face, and someone showing up. From September 28 to October 2, PGUAJS staff Jason and Jolene continued hands-on school and community outreach across the Prince George area, with the daily breakfast program at Nusdeh Yoh Elementary at the heart of the week.

243 people supported across a few locations

During the week, 243 people were supported or seen through outreach at Nusdeh Yoh, Prince George Secondary School, Shas Ti Kelly Road, Nukko Lake, and Hixon.

Breakfast at Nusdeh Yoh

Jason has been working directly in the school’s daily breakfast program, helping make sure students can begin their day with food, connection, and a welcoming start. This practical, relationship-based work is an important part of how PGUAJS builds trust and stays connected to young people where they are.

Building stronger school connections

The week also brought encouraging progress in Hixon, where the Vice-Principal is looking forward to strengthening the connection once the company vehicle is winterized. School events and activities will be shared directly with Jason, and the relationship with Nusdeh Yoh continues to grow through regular communication with school leadership.

Connections with Nukko Lake and Shas Ti Kelly Road remain a work in progress. That relationship-building takes time, and the team will continue reaching out and showing up consistently.

What’s coming next

  • Nusdeh Yoh’s after-school program begins Monday, October 5 (Jimosdzen Hook’elh’az).

  • On Friday, October 9 (Ulsunts’uzyihdazen), Jason will run the daily breakfast program and also support the lunch program while the school chef is away.

  • The team will continue strengthening connections with Nukko Lake, Shas Ti Kelly Road, Hixon, and other school communities.

A community win for Terry Fox

Nusdeh Yoh also raised $314 for its Terry Fox Run on September 25. Next year’s goal is $350. It is a small number with a big heartbeat, and another example of students, families, and staff coming together for something larger than themselves.

Thank you to the staff and school communities who continue to welcome PGUAJS into their spaces. This is what community-based work looks like: practical support, steady relationships, and being there day after day.
