The Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society (PGUAJS) is a non-profit agency that provides assistance to Aboriginal youth within the Prince George area, who are in conflict with the criminal justice system. Adopting many philosophies and teachings on the medicine wheel, it is the goal of the PGUAJS that clients accessing services through our agency, receive holistic and culturally sensitive/relevant service. Since 1995 the PGUAJS has been accepting referrals from Crown, R.C.M.P., schools, community and self or family. We specialize in serving self-identified Aboriginal youth between 12 and 17yrs although several exceptions have been made to work with non-Aboriginal youth.
PGUAJS is an independent registered non-profit society governed by a volunteer board of directors. The Circles and many other functions are staffed by community volunteers from all walks of life. They are required to provide a CRC and references to their suitability to act as role-models and mentors to high-risk youth. Volunteers are vital to the program and we welcome new volunteers on a continual basis. Training is provided. |
